Psalm 86 (AMP)

A Prayer of David

Incline Your ear, O Lord, and answer me, For I am distressed and needy [I long for Your help]. Protect my life (soul), for I am godly and faithful;O You my God, save Your servant, who trusts in You [believing in You and relying on You, confidently committing everything to You]. Be gracious and merciful to me, O Lord, For to You I cry out all the day long. Make Your servant rejoice, For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul [all that I am—in prayer]. For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive [our sins, sending them away, completely letting them go forever and ever]; And abundant in lovingkindness and overflowing in mercy to all those who call upon You. Hear, O Lord, my prayer; And listen attentively to the voice of my supplications (specific requests)! In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, For You will answer me. There is no one like You among the gods, O Lord, Nor are there any works [of wonder and majesty] like Yours. All nations whom You have made shall come and kneel down in worship before You, O Lord, And they shall glorify Your name. For You are great and do wondrous works! You alone are God. Teach me Your way, O Lord, I will walk and live in Your truth; Direct my heart to fear Your name [with awe-inspired reverence and submissive wonder]. I will give thanks and praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart; And will glorify Your name forevermore. For great is Your lovingkindness and graciousness toward me; And You have rescued my life from the depths of Sheol [from death]. O God, arrogant and insolent men have risen up against me; A band of violent men have sought my life, And they have not set You before them. But You, O Lord, are a God [who protects and is] merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness and truth. Turn to me, and be gracious to me; Grant Your strength [Your might and the power to resist temptation] to Your servant, And save the son of Your handmaid. Show me a sign of [Your] goodwill, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed, Because You, O Lord, helped and comforted me.

Beloved,

David was a man after Abba’s heart. Let David be an example of how we can come and be vulnerable in every circumstance to our Abba Father. We can lament our troubles because our Abba listens and will answer us. The beautiful thing that David does is not only lament but praise and remind Abba of his goodness. David was aware of his circumstances (which were out of his control) but was fully conscious of who his God is. As David said in verse 5, “For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive [our sins, sending them away, completely letting them go forever and ever]; And abundant in lovingkindness and overflowing in mercy to all those who call upon You.” In the Old Testament David longed for Abba’s goodness and mercy. David was so aware of His character.

Today, we have Jesus who is ready to forgive us of all of our sins (past, present, and future), is abundant in loving kindness, and overflowing in mercy to all who call upon Him. What a revelation David had and why he will forever be known as a man after God’s own heart. Hallelujah! We like David can trust Abba and all of His ways. Let us pray for the same revelation as David and be people after Abba’s heart. We can call out to Abba and ask for His wisdom and instruction. Due to Jesus finished work on the cross and the promises He gave we are enormously blessed, much more than David, and those in the Old Testament. We have the Holy Spirit who is with us always teaching, guiding, and instructing us in Abba and Jesus ways. We can walk out His truth by faith with awe-inspired reverence and submissive wonder.

David understood that praise activates our faith and allows us to focus our eyes on Abba. Let us say like David, “I will give thanks and praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; and will glorify your name forevermore!” There is no one like our God who is faithful, merciful, slow to anger, and gracious. No weapon formed against you will prosper and what the enemy meant for evil our Abba and Jesus will turn for good. He will give beauty for ashes and joy for mourning. Seek after His heart and understand His love. Let not your heart be trouble but bring your concerns to Jesus.

In Luke 10 Jesus visits Mary and Martha. Martha was very much focused on serving Jesus prideful of her own works. Martha lamented to Jesus and He did answer her frustration in Luke 10:40-42, “But Martha was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities; and she approached Him and said, “Lord, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to do the serving alone? Tell her to help me and do her part.” But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.” Mary simply like David sought the Lord for His love and comfort. Jesus let us know that this is the only thing necessary. Whatever may come know that our Abba and Jesus are with you. He know your beginning to end and will help and comfort you every step of the way as you keep your eyes on Him.

I pray that through each circumstance in life you will see how much Abba and Jesus love you. I pray that when you are weak you will seek His strength for Abba and Jesus will sustain you and keep you. I pray you will believe He hears you, answers you, helps you, and comforts you throughout all the days of your life. For you are highly favored, deeply loved and truly blessed. In Jesus Name. Amen!
