Psalm 77 (DARBY)

Comfort in Trouble from Recalling God's Mighty Deeds

My voice is unto God, and I will cry; my voice is unto God, and he will give ear unto me. In the day of my trouble, I sought the Lord: my hand was stretched out in the night, and slacked not; my soul refused to be comforted. I remembered God, and I moaned; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah. Thou holdest open mine eyelids; I am full of disquiet and cannot speak. I consider the days of old, the years of ancient times. I remember my song in the night; I muse in mine own heart, and my spirit maketh diligent search. Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? Hath his loving-kindness ceased for ever? hath [his] word come to an end from generation to generation? Hath God forgotten to be gracious? or hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. Then said I, This is my weakness: the years of the right hand of the Most High. Will I remember, the works of Jah; for I will remember thy wonders of old, And I will meditate upon all thy work, and muse upon thy doings. O God, thy way is in the sanctuary: who is so great a god as God? Thou art the God that doest wonders; thou hast declared thy strength among the peoples. Thou hast with [thine] arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah. The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they trembled, yea, the depths were troubled: The thick clouds poured out water; the skies sent out a sound, yea, thine arrows went abroad: The voice of thy thunder was in the whirlwind, lightnings lit up the world; the earth was troubled and it quaked. Thy way is in the sea, and thy paths are in the great waters; and thy footsteps are not known. Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Beloved,

Even in trouble Jesus is with us. Jesus name is Emmanuel (God with us). We can lift up our voices, cry out, and He will hear us. I love in this Psalm Asaph chooses to focus on Abba when things do not happen the way it should. When life become out of control our eyes should look up to Abba and Jesus. We like Asaph should desperately seek the Lord. But seeking is not all we should do. We should remember all that Abba and Jesus have done in the past.

Our loving Father and Savior are faithful. If He did it once, He can do it again! Let us bring to remembrance all that He has done with praise and thanksgiving. In Isaiah 43:26 Abba instructs us to put him in remembrance. Let us meditate which means to think about over and over again all He has brought us through and to where He is leading us. Just like in Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” Even in the darkest hour know today that is blessing and mercy are new every morning. It’s during times of trouble that we have to be careful about what we think and say.

The scripture reminds us that our lives will go in the direction of our thoughts. Let us arm ourselves with the Word, spend time in prayer trusting that all things are in His control, and nothing surprises Him. Today, don’t dwell on negative overwhelming thoughts. Instead, recall His deeds and focus on what He’s done for you. Thank Jesus for the gift of life and salvation. Create a book remembrance for all His wonderful blessings. It is so easy to forget in the mist of trouble, but, with this book let your thoughts turn toward Him and recall His wonderful deeds!

I pray that you will see Jesus with you always and not only bring Him into remembrance but meditate on all He has done and will do for you. Declare His promises over your life today and see His goodness manifest in new ways! In Jesus Name. Amen!
