Psalm 138 (AMP)

Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Favor

“I will give You thanks with all my heart; I sing praises to You before the [pagan] gods. I will bow down [in worship] toward Your holy temple And give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word together with Your name. On the day I called, You answered me; And You made me bold and confident with [renewed] strength in my life. All the kings of the land will give thanks and praise You, O Lord, When they have heard of the promises of Your mouth [which were fulfilled]. Yes, they will sing of the ways of the Lord [joyfully celebrating His wonderful acts], For great is the glory and majesty of the Lord. Though the Lord is exalted, He regards the lowly [and invites them into His fellowship]; But the proud and haughty He knows from a distance. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. The Lord will accomplish that which concerns me; Your [unwavering] lovingkindness, O Lord, endures forever— Do not abandon the works of Your own hands.”

Beloved,

In this time of year many are preparing for Thanksgiving and some Christmas. But for this month of November let us reflect on the Lord’s goodness. Let us give thanks and praise to Abba and Jesus for all that He has done, currently doing, and will do for us. We can see in Psalm 138 why David is called a man after God’s heart. David understood how praise and worship proceeds the victory. David understood that he pleased Abba and Jesus. We as the body of Christ are a pleasing aroma to Abba. In 2 Corinthians 2:15 it states, “For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which ascends] to God, [discernible both] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing;” We are the examples to the world of the Lord’s goodness.

All though David lived prior to the coming of our Savior, I love how he knew that Jesus would be magnified with our Abba Father. In verse 2 it says, “For You have magnified Your word together with Your name”. Jesus is the word, and the word was with God, and the word is God. It is beautiful to see the Old Testament revealed to us from the truths in the New Testament. I also want to highlight verse 6, “Though the Lord is exalted, He regards the lowly [and invites them into His fellowship]; But the proud and haughty He knows from a distance”. Jesus demonstrated this verse throughout the New Testament. Jesus always had compassion for the humble, for those who wholeheartedly seek Him, and desire to be near Him. For the pharisees and religious zealots of that time Jesus picked and chose His battles. Jesus was stern with them in Love. Jesus came to save the sinners of the world and those chosen by our Abba father before the beginning of the world. In Mark 6:34 we see Jesus taking compassion on the crowd that followed Him because they were like sheep without a shepherd. Our Jesus is the good shepherd who takes care of us all the time. Jesus said in John 5:17, “My Father has been working until now [He has never ceased working], and I too am working.” Be reminded today that you can always call on the Lord and He will answer you. He is working all things together for your good. He can make you bold, confident, and renew your strength.

Even in the midst of trouble He will reach out with His right hand and save you. One example of Jesus doing this is in Matthew 14:29-31. Peter saw Jesus walking on the water and he asked if he could step out to meet Jesus. In verse 29 Jesus said, “Come, Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,”he said, “why did you doubt?” No matter what circumstances come our way let us have faith to believe. We can even ask Jesus to help us overcome our unbelief. We can be open, honest, and transparent with Jesus. See Jesus asking you the same question He asked Peter when the enemy tries to lie to you. Have faith to believe there is nothing too big, too small, too easy or too hard for our Abba and Jesus to immediately help us. The Lord will accomplish all that concerns us because His loving kindness endures forever and He will never leave or forsake us.

I pray that your eyes are opened to see the God who is with you, for you, and loves you. I pray during this season you will reflect on His goodness and mercies in your life and let the sweet aroma of your praise and worship rise up to him. In Jesus Name. Amen!
