Proverbs 1:8-9 (NLT)

A Father’s Exhortation

My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck.

Beloved,

Abba and Jesus bless those who demonstrate honor. It is wise to take heed to your parent(s) counsel. The wisdom we obtain from our elders can smooth our own paths as we learn from there successes and failures. Some are privileged to have both parents or even one parent in there lives. In Proverbs 1:8-9, it advises us that we will wear a crown of grace on our heads and a chain of honor around our neck when we hear our fathers instruction and accept our mothers teachings. For those whose parents are no longer in the land of the living or never had a mother or father be encouraged today that our Heavenly Father loves you. No matter what kind of parent or parents you may have (good or bad) our Heavenly Father loves you and wants the best for you. He is always with us and will never leave us nor forsake us. Our Heavenly Father will be the provider of both giving instruction and teaching lessons.

This is demonstrated in the life of Jesus. Jesus even to the point of obedience laid down his life to fulfill our Heavenly Fathers plan to save and redeem us from the law of sin and death. In Matthew 26:39 Jesus said to our Abba as he fell down on his face to pray, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Jesus foresaw the suffering, pain, and anguish of what He would endure to free us. In Matthew 26:42 Jesus went back a second time to ask our Abba, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” Jesus could not fulfill his destiny without demonstrating extra mile obedience. Jesus loved His father and us enough to fulfill the plan of our Heavenly Father. Although Jesus suffered, He rose again declaring us righteous. In Revelations 5:12 they sang in a mighty chorus, “Worthy is the Lamb who slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.”

What our parent(s) or heavenly father asks us to do may not always make sense but when we obey it demonstrates honor and faith which will open the door to abundance. It is written in Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” As we honor our earthly parents and our Heavenly Father, He will provide us with a long life filled with his blessings and grace. We will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living as we honor those who have come before us and are with us.

I pray your eyes are opened to see the obedience and finished work of Jesus. I pray that you will wear a crown of grace on your head and honor around your neck as you go the extra mile to please our Abba Father. In Jesus Name. Amen!
