Colossians‬ ‭3:3-4‬ ‭(NLT‬)‬

Put On the New Self

For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

Beloved,

Once you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior something wonderful happens on the inside. Simply, the old-man died and your new-man rose with Jesus. But what does that exactly mean? We are made in the image of our Abba Father. Our Abba father is a triad being. He is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Just like our Abba Father we are also a triad being. We have a body (senses), soul (emotions), and spirit (inner-man). From the beginning when Abba made Adam and Eve they were a replica of His image. He gave one commandment, do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and if they eat from the tree they will surely die (Genesis 2:16-17). Unfortunately, they partook of the tree and their inner-man (the spirit) died. But the story does not end there because of our Abba’s grace and love. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Jesus took our place, took our judgment, and gave his life to redeem us. Abba raised his beloved Son on the third day to declare us righteous in His eyes fully redeemed from the law of sin and death.

In Colossians 3, Paul emphasizes that we have died to this life and our real life is in Christ. Once we accept Jesus our inner-man (the spirit) is brought to life again through the power of the Holy Spirit (the Helper and Comforter). As we abide in Jesus (the Vine) He will make us and mold us into his image. Through the help of the Holy Spirit we can produce the Fruits of the Spirit. Those fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” (John 14:12-14 ). As we rest and let Jesus work in us daily we develop fruits from the vine (his good works) for we are the branches. Our fruits will be displayed for the world to see, and Jesus and our Abba Father are exalted! Hallelujah!

In this chapter, Paul warns us of these examples that do not please our Abba Father and Jesus: evil passions, sexual immorality, greed, anger, slander, and dirty language. It is a good reminder for us to keep our eyes Jesus and that the power of life and death is in the tongue. When we let Jesus rule our hearts and is guided by the teaching of Grace it doesn’t promote us to sin and take lightly his sacrifice but the opposite. We are able to come to Abba with praise, thanksgiving, and worship. When Abba sees us he sees his beloved son Jesus. It is such a blessing to know over 2000 years ago on the cross Jesus saw you and me and declared it is Finished.

I pray that your eyes are opened to see Jesus and rejoice in his finished work. May you be continually reminded how much He loves you! In Jesus Name Amen!
